Post on job advertising websites

In a world where the internet ties people together, regardless of who they are or where they currently are in the world, there are plenty of sites that connect recruiters with potential employees. These websites make advertising open student work positions much easier, especially for student workers that scour the internet for jobs, usually started with a quick Google search or a visit to their preferred job postings site if they are actively looking for work.

Job posting sites will help you build a solid profile for the student worker position you want to advertise. Anything from starting pay to location can be included in your listing, helping attract serious potential employees by being as specific with the student worker position listing as possible. If you expect to have the student worker have a certain set of skills coming into the job, it won’t hurt to specify such skills on the listing, or explicitly state that no prior experience is needed to help encourage student workers that are feeling discouraged with some aspect of the job description.

If you don’t know where to start when it comes to posting listings, LinkedIn is one of the more popular websites as it can reach a very wide audience as more and more people are hearing about the site and actually using it. Websites that are less well known, but geared toward specifically toward student workers and recent graduates are a great idea to reach your target audience to advertise open student worker positions. Websites like Uloop and WayUp allow you to post to an audience of student workers to get your open position filled.

Use ordinary social media to reach student workers

If you already know that students have such a close relationship to social media, you should utilize that relationship to advertise your student worker position successfully. One student can easily spend hours perusing social media as the day passes and if you know how to take advantage of social media, it is the perfect opportunity to advertise your open student worker position.

Social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram can be used to help you attract the student workers you need. Build a real social media profile to make yourself stand out among anonymous bots when advertising your open student workers. Make sure your tweets or posts actually reach your target audience by building a social media presence. Interact with potential student workers when they reach out to you with questions and/or interest in the advertised student worker position.

Get your posts noticed by targeting other job posting profiles are utilizing hashtags to connect your open student worker positions with other existing posts so that students can see yours while viewing their options through social media.

Attend job fairs, specifically on-campus job fairs

While job fairs may seem like the option that requires more effort, it may be the most fruitful option for recruiting for your open student worker position. Plenty of colleges hold at least one large job fair for all of their students every year to connect current students with potential employers, and it’s a great opportunity to reach your target audience. You get to interact with student workers that are genuinely interested in finding a job as their attendance reflects them actively searching for work.

Once you have your target audience of student workers, it’s important to catch their attention and keep it to be successful. If the company you are recruiting for happens to be more well-known and a household name, it may be easier to attract student workers if they already know your company as it seems more credible and “worth their time.”

If your company is smaller and less known, be ready to pitch the company to a student worker in order to make the position credible and to keep their attention on you and the position advertised. Tie in keywords, like what kind of company it is and what fields it lies in. Tell the student the type of work that will be expected of them and what they can gain from the position advertised.

Advertising your open student worker position(s) may put you at a loss at figuring out the best way to approach student workers, but the internet and campus resources allow you to find your starting line. With these tools at your disposal, it is much easier to advertise your open student worker positions and become one step closer to filling the position(s).
